Our name is Grey Dey. We have been making art and writing all of our lives. We have been based in San Francisco since 1995, and we are currently an MFA 2026 candidate at UIUC. Our MFA thesis is concerned with art’s unique role in critical thinking and education. We like to call this “Show Me Pedagogy.” Our practice is broad in “connect the dots” research, in areas like Queer Studies, Gender, Systemic Racism, Classism, Democracy, Speciesism, Environmental Studies, and Utopian Futurisms. We seek to make art that visually intersects these interests simultaneously, and to write about art that contributes to the urgent conversations around radical inclusion and equity, and global environmental sustainability.
