Vivien Slagle is a student at the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on art, anthropology, and law. They also previously studied art and criminology at Stanford University and at the University of Cincinnati. Their studies focus primarily on prison abolition and art as a societal tool, with hopes to work in gallery curation. Currently living in California, Vivien originates from a small farming town outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, and has done most of their professional work as a mural artist in the city. This rural background has encouraged an academic focus on poverty and the incarceration system, particularly within their anthropological studies.
