John Held, Jr. is a San Francisco artist and writer, “recognized as a pivotal chronicler of Mail Art, documenting, promoting its global networks through extensive writing, curation, and collection-building that connected grassroots alternative practices to established art institutions.” He has published books on Mail Art, zines, artist postage stamps, and artist archives, lecturing in London, Berlin, Moscow, and Havana. His papers are in the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, with collections placed with the Getty Research Institute, SFMOMA, and MoMA/New York.
