Vrushali Anil Dhage

Vrushali Anil Dhage is an art historian, PhD, curator, and faculty member at Otis College of Art and Design in the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and at California State University, East Bay, Hayward. Her primary area of research is tracing the impact of economic globalization on art practices and the consequent exhibition practices, predominantly from the Global South. This stems from her doctoral thesis, titled Globalization and Its Impact on Contemporary Indian Art. She teaches subjects related to contemporary cultures and trends, the reinterpretation of classical arts from India, and the Global South by contemporary artists and designers. A significant aspect of her research examines art practices that focus on narrative and storytelling craft traditions. It ranges from challenging Eurocentric categorizations of traditional cultural activities to the nonchalance of participants within the capitalist global circuitry towards the marginalization and exploitation of traditional craftsmen.
